A hotel on the Isle of Skye, dating back to the 1800s, is now up for sale after the owner has decided to retire.
Mr Richard Jeffrey, who has had a long 40-year career in the hospitality sector, has decided to retire and sell the Ardvasar Hotel, which he has owned for 15 years.
On his decision, Mr Jeffrey said: “I’ve done 15 summers here on Skye, and it’s been great fun, but it does take its toll and it’s time to think of doing something else. I’m going to take a year out before I do anything rash. The hospitality business is good fun but it’s hard work and it’s time to re-evaluate things.”
The 10-bedroom hotel overlooks the Sound of Sleat and has stunning views of the Knoydart mountains. It is also situated 800 metres from the pier and provides an excellent resting place for those coming to enjoy hillwalking, sailing or fishing.
The hotel is open all year round and counts international visitors as well as those travelling from the UK. It also provides a social base for the local populace, including the student population of the Gaelic college nearby.
Mr Jeffrey has appointed business property adviser Christie & Co who has put the hotel on the market for £825,000 as a freehold property.
In a statement, Christie & Co associate director Stuart Drysdale said: “The Ardvasar Hotel presents an excellent opportunity for a purchaser to take on a well-established business with good reputation and consistent turnover and profit levels.”
“Skye has always been a popular destination for visitors to Scotland and hotel trade is strong on the island.”
