Hammersmith and Fulham Council has put the Grade II-listed Fulham Town Hall onto the market.
Architecture firm Hawkins Brown is currently working on restoring the Victorian building, which is located near Stamford Bridge, and the council is said to have already received offers from several interested parties. Amongst the original features being restored by the architects are the treble domed vaulted ceilings, marble staircase, period chandeliers and solid oak doors.
Plans to create a boutique hotel whilst retaining the Town Hall's chamber and hall for public use have been submitted from one potential purchaser.
Nick Botterill, deputy leader of the council, said, “We do not need, and cannot afford, two town halls. We want to see the building itself brought back to life as part of the biggest regeneration of the area since the Broadway development.
“We are particularly excited that there is scope to retain the chamber and halls for public use and believe that this really is the best possible solution for residents,” he added.
Alongside the sale of the historic Town Hall – which was built in 1888 - the council is also selling off seven other properties, in a bid to raise around £14 million. According to the council, the funds raised will be put towards reducing a historic burden debt of £133 million.
