Scafell Hotel, a country hotel and inn located in the village of Rosthwaite in the Lake District National Park, has been put up for sale due to its current owners retiring. Colliers are marketing the hotel for sale, with offers in the region of £2.75 million being sought.
The hotel is set in approximately five acres of grounds and features 23 en-suite bedrooms, a 60-cover restaurant, self-contained Riverside Bar with 50 covers, several lounges and ample car parking. There is also reportedly scope to establish four glamping pods within the hotel’s paddock.
The property also has a self-contained one-bedroom owner or managers flat on the first floor, which features a lounge, dining room, and en-suite bathroom, as well as three staff bedrooms which share a communal bathroom.
It is located close to Lakeland fells, including Scafell Pike, Dale Head, Great Gable, High Spy and Great End. The property was last marketed for sale more than 50 years ago, having been acquired by its current owners in 1971, and was previously a private residence for artist Mary Barker.
The sale of the former 18th century coaching inn is being handled by Colliers’ Head of UK Hotels Agency Julian Troup. Colliers could also give consideration to a lease agreement on the property and business.
Commenting on the sale process, Julian Troup said: "Scafell Hotel is a very well-known Lakeland trading hospitality business that we believe will attract significant interest. Colliers has sold more than 50 hotels in the region and associated hospitality businesses since the beginning of 2021 and I am sure Scafell will soon be added to that list of successful sales."
