The General Tarleton Hotel and Restaurant, an 18th century coaching inn near Harrogate, North Yorkshire, has been put up for sale. The freehold for the 15-bedroom inn is on the market with an asking price of £1.2 million.
The inn was acquired by the Morris family in 2021 and has since undergone extensive refurbishments, while retaining a number of period features, including exposed stone walls and flooring and oak beams.
The General Tarleton sits on a 0.8-acre site featuring an outdoor dining and drinking space, an entrance and reception area and a restaurant, bar and atrium with space to seat up to 90 diners.
The site also features a private dining room directly above the restaurant, which can seat an additional 20 guests, as well as an owner/manager four-bedroom apartment located within the building.
The inn is located close to the A1 motorway, as well as some of the most popular tourist sites in North Yorkshire, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
Current owner Jon Morris commented: “As a local resident and frequent customer, my family and I have long felt that with the right investment in the building and the business, The General Tarleton could be restored to its former glory.”
“So, when it came up for sale around four years ago, we decided to purchase and improve the building, and are now at the stage where we are looking for a new owner or operator to take it to the next level.”
The marketing of The General Tarleton is being handled by Christie & Co Director Mark Worley, who commented: “The General Tarleton is a great building in an affluent, highly sought-after location close to National Parks and major tourist destinations. This is a great opportunity for an operator to take full advantage of the investments made by the Morris’s, and to reap the rewards.”
