Offers exceeding £750,000 are being invited for Langdale Hall, a town hall in Witney, Oxford.
The site, which has a capacity of 250, air-conditioning, a large dance floor with sprung wooden floors, function room (seating up to 60), parking, bar and kitchen, is being marketed by Meeson Williams Philips, a commercial property and land development consultancy.
The former drill hall was constructed in the 1920s. Today Witney Town Council uses it for corporate, social and community events.
Speaking to Oxford Mail about the development opportunity Mark Meeson, director at Meeson Williams Philips, said: “We have had pre-application discussions with the planners and they have confirmed that the buildings would be suitable for a variety of different uses.
“The ground floor could be converted to shops or a restaurant, for example, while the upper floors would make excellent offices or apartments.”
The town council agreed to dispose of the hall back in 2011 in order to fund the repairs required to reopen the Corn Exchange in Market Square, which has been closed since November 2011 when safety inspectors discovered some problems that needed urgent attention.
Subsequent checks conducted earlier this year found asbestos.
Discussions about the halls will take place at a public meeting on Monday, 22 September 6pm.
