London-based pub operator Antic has acquired a new commercial site in a bid to expand its offerings.
Antic has purchased the former Walkabout bar in trendy Clapham, south London, and is planning to convert the building into a new music venue and bar. The current layout of the venue comprises a pub-style environment over two storeys, but this will be altered and renamed the Battersea Mess & Music Hall.
Antic’s owner Anthony Thomas, has revealed that the new venue will be open for business as soon as this autumn. The pub operator – well known for its ‘back to basics’ approach to the pub world – already runs 16 pubs located across London, with the vast majority of them in the south of the city.
Alongside the planned new Battersea Mess & Music Hall, Antic has also announced plans to open a series of other pubs across south and east London this year.
Associate director of corporate pubs at Christie & Co, Anthony Jenkins – who was tasked with handling the sale of the former Walkabout on behalf of owner Intertain – told Big Hospitality, “The group has 16 pubs, the majority of which are south of the river, and all are ‘proper pubs’ in traditional buildings with some of the best entertainment that London has to offer. We’re delighted to have sold this bar to this expanding empire,” he added.
