Property developer S Harrison Developments has made its first purchase of a site in Scotland in a continuation of its expansion plans.
It has bought a 0.5-acre site on Leith Walk in Edinburgh’s New Town, which had been left derelict, and was previously part of Edinburgh’s Botanic Gardens. The Botanic Cottage, previously at the site, is to be rebuilt over the course of the next year at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The company is in talks with the planning authorities to see about building student accommodation on the site, with some retail space on the ground floor. East Kilbride-based architect ICA has been brought in to develop the design proposals for the project.
The new plans would help address the city’s student housing requirements. The planning committee had previously agreed plans for a 205-bed hotel to be built on the site.
Yorkshire-based S Harrison says it will also be announcing some acquisitions in Leeds and York soon. Founded by the late Stanley Harrison in 1952, the company has grown on the back of its reputation for quality and timely delivery. Its handful of accolades includes a 2013 Green Apple award and a 2013 RICS award.
