The BBC is understood to be reassessing its multimillion-pound sale of the iconic Television Centre in West London, due to pressure caused by last year's licence fee deal.
The broadcasting company initially shelved plans to wholly sell the famed doughnut-shaped building last spring, after striking a deal that would see it redeveloped under a joint venture, and turned into a 'creative quarter' for the television industry.
A source from within the BBC, however, has said that a simple sale is now back on the table. While a straightforward property sale is likely to be quicker and easier, it may not raise as much money in the long run as a joint venture, which might raise the general reputation of the BBC in the long run.
The BBC is to leave its long-term West London home by 2015, as it relocates several thousand staff up to their brand new MediaCity development in Salford, Manchester, or to the newly refurbished Broadcasting House in Central London.
An official spokesman for the BBC said, "Since the sale of Television Centre was announced the BBC has always been clear that it was important to achieve maximum value from the sale. However at this stage it is too early to discuss the sale process in any detail."
