The Stoke Civic Centre building has received a lot of interest from businesses and organisations interested in acquiring the commercial property, it has been reported.
According to the city council, almost 30 groups have said that they are interested in buying the 15-acre site.
Councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and transport, commented on the council's move: "We are starting site investigations and have a number of significant interests. The results of these early surveys will make the site more attractive to interested parties and help to secure a development partner to regenerate the area."
The Civic Centre is just one of a number of sites and buildings that the local authority is selling off in preparation for its move in 2015 to a new location. The new head quarters will require public funding of up to £55 million, according to This is Staffordshire, and at the moment the change is not proving particularly popular.
The main concern is that the project will not be delivered and there appears to be a general attitude of doubt in the council and its ability to build the new head quarters on time and on budget.
