A grade ll listed hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon that has a connection to William Shakespeare has been sold.
The Billesley Manor Hotel was sold by The Hotel Collection, represented by Savills, to an overseas private investor, and going forward the hotel will be managed by Bespoke Hotels. The sale went through for an undisclosed sum, but we can report that it was placed on the market in April 2016 with a guide price in excess of £8 million.
The hotel dates back to the 16th century and is referenced in the Doomsday Book. It has an 11th century church in its 11 acres of grounds, a 100-year-old Topiary Garden and a library where Shakespeare is thought to have written one of his plays.
Today, it's hotel features are; 72 bedrooms, a health club, swimming pool, tennis courts and wedding facilities.
The sale leaves one last hotel – the 148-bedroom Shrigley Hall Hotel – to be sold off from the original group of ten regional UK hotels. It is expected that a sale will go through shortly.
Martin Rogers, head of UK hotel transactions at Savills, commented: “The UK regional hotel market continues to attract both overseas investors and high net worth individuals looking for smaller lot sizes and long term income.”
