A Yorkshire-based farm and restaurant has been placed on the market for £1.3 million.
Local businessman Howard Cook is selling the Ponderosa rare breeds visitor centre and Lakeside restaurant so that he can focus on growing existing facilities for people with special needs, those with mental health issues and the elderly.
The business will be sold as a going concern and all bookings will be honoured in the meantime. The centre has a large and regular customer base and Mr Cook is confident that it will thrive in new ownership.
Agents CBRE and Michael Steel and Co. are handling the sale process for the Heckmondwike-based attraction. The farm has been open for over 20 years and is home to a variety of animals including owls, llamas, meerkats, skunks, catfish and tarantulas.
The 80-acre Ponderosa site had been divided up, with the farm and restaurant set to be divested and the remaining areas to be developed into an outdoor resource space to be available for the public as well as people with learning difficulties.
Also, Kirklees Council has received plans for an 80-bed care home for people with dementia.
Mr Cook, 70, passed his building business over to his sons after being treated for cancer before Christmas 2013 and is now seeking to sell the farm and restaurant as they don’t want to carry on with it. The sale will enable the businessman to focus on what he really wants to do.
“Cancer is a life-changer,” he told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
“I have had a reprieve and I don’t want to waste any more time. I want to return to what I love doing – caring for others.”
