Newcastle-based equipment hire firm Nixon Hire has divested its welfare van fleet in what it has described as a “carefully considered strategic deal”. The sale comes as the company looks to streamline its operations and deploy capital into high-growth areas.
The assets are said to no longer align with Nixon Hire’s long-term plans, as it seeks to establish itself as the UK's leader in sustainable sites. The proceeds from the transaction will be invested in core, high-growth areas, such as renewable power, modular buildings and site accommodation.
The firm had reportedly invested in the fleet of welfare vans for more than a decade, but has now refocused its strategy and is exiting from traditional construction equipment rental in order to focus on establishing itself as a specialist in sustainable, low carbon products. Nixon Hire has recently expanded and enhanced its fleets of modular buildings and renewable power equipment.
Commenting on the sale, Chief Executive Graham Nixon said: "This is a carefully considered strategic deal and a positive outcome for all parties. The sale enables us to lean further and faster into our transition from generalist provider to specialist partner – directing additional capital into modular buildings, renewable power, site accommodation, site welfare and the other high-growth areas that define the 'new' Nixon Hire.”
He added: "Looking forward, with a strong pipeline across our target markets and a wave of new products, services and innovations set to roll out, we have real confidence in the strength and direction of the business."
The vans have been sold to Sunbelt Rental UK, which said in a separate announcement that it had acquired a fleet of over 200 welfare vans in a move that increases the size of its fleet by more than 130 per cent.
Chris Hanley, Operations Director at Sunbelt Rentals, said: "This acquisition marks a major step forward in how we can support our customers across the UK and Europe.
"From starting with 30 vehicles, we've grown the fleet into a key part of our business offering whereby we support multiple geographical areas and sectors. This achievement is a testament to the work of our team at the Derby depot, who have built this business over the past 10 years.”
