Two of London's leading theatre dons have acquired Picturehouse Entertainment, a live cinema distributor.
Husband and wife team Sir Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire who co-founded the Ambassador Theatre Group will combine the new purchase with another recent acquisition, Trafalgar Studios, in a move that will provide more live-streaming theatrical productions.
A recent production at Trafalgar Studios, which includes two West End theatres, has been Macbeth starring Claire Foy and James McAvoy.
The redevelopment of Trafalgar Studios would look to equip the theatres with built-in live-streaming equipment.
The couple plan to acquire other sites in London, Berlin and Los Angeles, and have said they want to improve the customer experience for the venues: “Our new vision is a much improved experience for our customers. We want to enhance the experience from the moment you walk in the door so that it’s a place where you want to hang out - there’ll be great stuff happening on stage and also a space to meet friends.
“People will want to be there, rather than just go there to see whatever’s on. That’s the difference.”
The new group, to be known as Trafalgar Releasing, would develop theatre productions for the stage that were also being created specifically with live streaming in mind.
