Two housing groups in Staffordshire and Shropshire have merged forming one new housing provider. The merge between Severnside Housing in Shropshire and Housing Plus in Staffordshire will employ around 600 people in the new group, Housing Plus Group.
The housing group, which comprises Care Plus, Severn Homes, AWE and Property Plus and focuses on providing homes for vulnerable people, caters to over 25,000 customers and owns almost 12,000 properties. It has a turnover of £60 million.
The new group is already pledging to build more houses in the Staffordshire and Shropshire area, for people to rent or buy. Sarah Boden, chief executive of Housing Plus Group, previously of Severnside, said: “The need for housing has never been greater. Our challenge is to provide the homes our communities need, including disadvantaged or vulnerable people whose needs are not met by the open market.
“There is a huge responsibility to support thriving towns and villages. As a larger group, we now have a tremendous opportunity to build more homes in the local area and offer greater choice and excellent services for customers.”
The new group will continue the landlord services and property repairs the previous groups provided. These will continue from the operational centres based in Staffordshire and Shropshire. Miss Boden also assured that none of the current clients would experience significant changes to their homes or to the charges they pay.
Rolf Levesley, chair of the Housing Plus Group board, said in a statement: “I’m proud that we can make a real difference to people in Shropshire and Staffordshire as we strive to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live somewhere they can call home.”
