JCP Solicitors, a law firm headquartered in South Wales, has announced that it will merge with Port Talbot-based Howe & Spender Solicitors. According to JCP Solicitors, the deal, which is set to complete on August 11 2025, will “bring investment and opportunity” to the Port Talbot region.
The merger is expected to strengthen JCP Solicitors’ offering to businesses and private clients in the Port Talbot area, while supporting growth and opportunity in the town. Howe & Spender’s skilled team will be retained post-merger, while there is also expected to be scope for further expansion of the team.
Upon completion of the deal, Howe & Spender director Ian Spender will join as director in the Lifetime Planning team of the merged companies. The team in Port Talbot will continue all private client and property work currently carried out by Howe & Spender, while expanding the range of commercial and private services available to clients.
Ian Spender said that joining forces with JCP Solicitors was “a fantastic strategic development for both businesses” and that the Howe & Spender team would bring “a wealth of legal expertise and knowledge of conveyancing and lifetime planning matters to the JCP Solicitors’ client offering.”
He continued: "Overall, this merger brings new investment to the region and represents an exciting new chapter for the business. It is fantastic to see the legal sector in Port Talbot continue to grow, and we are confident this merger will support new and existing clients and local businesses to access expert legal advice and guidance on their doorstep."
The merger is described as representing JCP Solicitors’ growth strategy, with the company already having established offices across Cardiff, Carmarthen, Swansea, Caerphilly, Cowbridge and Haverfordwest. JCP Solicitors CEO Hayley Davies said the deal showed the company’s “growth strategy in action as we continue to expand across South Wales.”
Davies continued: "Our people are our priority, and we take careful consideration when it comes to mergers and acquisitions as we look for those who meet our values, the JCP ethos, culture and client-first focus.”
She said that the “merger will support the long-term development for Port Talbot”, adding that "the region is rife for regeneration opportunities as the business community diversifies.”
