A parcel delivery firm based in the North West had fallen into administration and ceased trading, with administrators now seeking to sell the company’s assets, including its fleet of vehicles and leasehold property.
W. Harrison & Sons (Carriers) Limited, which traded as Express Parcel Services, was a Middleton-based haulage company that had been trading for more than 50 years. The company provided distribution, storage and warehousing services from its operating centre in Middleton.
The company, which was a Pallet-Track member, also provided next day and economy pallet distribution services. According to office of the traffic commissioner details, the company had a licence authorising 45 HGVs and 51 trailers.
Prior to the company falling into administration, it had conducted a marketing process in an attempt to find a buyer. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful, with the firm ceasing trading, resulting in approximately 30 employees being made redundant.
It was subsequently placed into administration, with directors appointing Julie Palmer and Andrew Hook of Begbies Traynor as joint administrators on August 12. The joint administrators will now begin the process of realising the company’s assets.
An auction of Express Parcel Services’ vehicle fleet is scheduled to run from September 3 to September 10 2025.
Joint administrator Andrew Hook, partner at Begbies Traynor, said: "We always aim to rescue any company. Unfortunately, despite a marketing process being conducted prior to our appointment a buyer for the company’s business and assets was not identified. We will now work with relevant stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcome for creditors.”
“As part of this process we are realising the company’s assets including its vehicle fleet and leasehold property. Interested parties can view certain assets online, or contact the joint administrators for further details.”
In the company’s accounts for the year to May 31 2024, its fixed assets were valued at slightly over £1.1 million and current assets at around £710,000, with net assets amounting to slightly under £850,000.
