Assets including plant and machinery are going up for sale after a long-established Wrexham precision gears manufacturer closed and collapsed into liquidation.
Woollacott Gears was established more than 100 years ago and specialised in the manufacture of precision gears and engineering components. The business was based at Llay Hall Industrial Estate and had worked with major industrial clients, including BAE.
Leonard Curtis have been appointed as liquidators of the company and have engaged Manchester-based property and asset experts Landwood Group to oversee an asset sale following the business’ closure.
Landwood Group’s machinery and business assets division is now overseeing the sale of more than 450 lots of precision engineering machinery, as well as the company’s extensive plant. Manufacturing assets featured in the sale include high-spec CNC gear cutting machines, tooling and stocks of parts and components.
In the company’s accounts for the year to December 31 2023, its fixed assets were valued at around £120,000 and current assets at £486,000, with total equity amounting to slightly over £218,000.
Jeff Wignall, director at Landwood Group, said that Woollacott Gears was “a well-respected local firm and it’s important the sale reflects that.”
He continued: "The auction offers a rare chance to get hold of specialist gear cutting machinery and associated equipment at a fraction of the usual cost. With more than 450 lots available, there’s something for every business, whether you’re upgrading, expanding or entering the gear manufacturing space for the first time.”
"Our auctions always attract strong interest and with quality equipment like this in short supply, we’re expecting some competitive bidding.”
A viewing of the available equipment will be held at Llay Hall Industrial Estate, Mold Road, Cefn-y-bedd, Wrexham, on Wednesday August 6 from 10am to 4pm. The auction will close at 10am on Monday August 11.
