A buyer is being sought for the Tillington Hall Hotel in Stafford, which has entered administration.
The administration has come as something of a surprise to staff and those involved in the business. Kate Smith, spokesperson for the administrators, confirmed the news in a statement to the local paper, the Express & Star: "Simon Thomas and Shelley Bullman of Moorfields Corporate Recovery LLP have been appointed administrators over Tillington Hall Hotel Ltd.
"The popular hotel located in the heart of England, in the county town of Stafford includes 91 bedrooms, conference and events facilities and a restaurant and bar. The hotel is located close to the M6 and in an ideal location to explore local attractions."
She added that the hotel will continue to trade under the control of Moorfields while efforts are made to find a buyer for the business.
The hotel has been in operation since 1969 and is thought to be one of the most well-thought of hotels in the town. Its established reputation is expected to generate substantial levels of interest, with locals confident that a buyer will be found relatively quickly.
MP for Stafford, Jeremy Lefroy, told the paper: "The hotel is in a good location and I believe there will be a lot of interest in the site."
He added: "I hope that the administrators will be able to preserve the venue as a viable business and that jobs at the hotel are maintained."
