A Liverpool women’s fashion brand backed by reality TV stars has entered administration, while its customers have been left “fuming” over missing items and non-existent refunds.
Rare London, also known as Rare Fashion, ceased trading on 26 July 2017 once administrators Duff & Phelps had determined the company to be insolvent after it was unable to pay its liabilities, including the salaries of its 56 staff.
The administrators also reported that the company cannot process stock returns or refunds for customers.
The brand was publicly backed by a number of reality TV celebrities, who also appeared in publicity shots and modelled some of the clothes that Rare sold. These included The Only Way Is Essex’s Sam Faiers, Made In Chelsea socialite Louise Thompson and Kady McDermott, who featured on Love Island.
Rare’s goods were stocked in Topshop under a concession agreement, which saw many of the firm’s staff based in Topshop stores around the country, as well as ASOS and TK Maxx. According to its website, Rare’s product range spans dresses, tops, skirts, footwear and accessories.
The firm has 115,000 followers on Instagram thanks to its celebrity endorsements but announced news of its administration on Facebook with “immediate effect”, confirming that all staff would be made redundant.
Rare told customers who had recently placed an order or who were awaiting a refund to contact their bank or card provider to see if they could obtain their money that way.
"In the event that you are unable to secure a refund of the monies paid then you will need to make a claim against the insolvent estate as this balance will rank [as] an unsecured claim against the company," it added.
Many customers responded on Facebook with anger over recently ordered items or non-existent refunds that had now left them out of pocket.
