A company that runs a hotel, restaurant and pub in Cornwall has entered administration.
Michelle Weir of Plymouth-based insolvency practitioner Lameys Business Recovery has been appointed administrator of Brooks Hotel and Leisure. She revealed that the family-run company is going to continue trading while a sale is sought for its assets.
The business is owned by Malcolm Brooks and it runs the Barclay House Hotel, the Trawlers on the Quay restaurant and the Plough pub. Mr Brooks blamed a road closure in Looe and a failed investment as the main reason behind the company’s financial misfortune.
The Barclay House Hotel – which offers views over the East Looe River, Looe Harbour and the Cornish countryside – was originally built as a Victorian house. It now offers 12 rooms and, perched above the main building, eight self-catering cottages.
Administrator Michelle Weir said: “We’re looking to sell quickly so there won’t be any loss of jobs. I have a lot of interested parties already so hopefully it will happen within a few weeks.
“A review will be carried out of the company’s trading activities but it is our intention that trading should continue with the aim of protecting jobs and good will. I am confident of attracting a serious buyer for one of all of the trades over the coming weeks.”
She added that she was confident that, because of the high amount of interest in the assets, the creditors would receive a dividend “in due course”.
