Abattoir and food processing business Ensors Gloucestershire Ltd has changed ownership in a pre-pack administration.
Administrators Will Wright and Mark Orton at KPMG came in to see what could be done for the struggling company, which had been hit by financial difficulties, on 6 September.
The company and its assets, including the three-acre freehold site with 80,000 square foot factory, plant and machinery in Cinderford, Gloucestershire, have been bought by Foyle Food Group Limited. All 136 Ensors’ employees are to be transferred over to Foyle.
Wright told Insolvency Today: “After suffering cashflow problems due to the loss of a significant contract and investment in an acquisition that failed to deliver the anticipated benefits, the long established family business was unable to continue trading and a solvent sale was not possible due to the levels of debt in the business."
“The sale of the business via ‘pre-pack’ has enabled the continued employment of all 136 staff and will mean work and the abattoir and processing plant will continue under new ownership,” he added.
Established for over 78 years, the family-run business carries the Assured Food Standards, Freedom Food, and Organic Standard Soil Association certifications.
