Wed, 11 Sep 2013 | ADMINISTRATION
A century-old home furnishings chain in Northern Ireland, Hanna & Browne, has entered administration.
Its stores in Newtownards, Limavady, Lisburn and Bangor have stopped trading, and while none of the staff have been made redundant according to the administrator, it does bring the future of the 100 plus jobs into question.
James Neill of Horwood Neill Holmes was brought in as the administrator to TB Lyttle & Sons, trading as Lisnasure Interiors and Hanna & Browne yesterday.
James Neill is working on assessing its trading and financial situation before seeking to salvage the business, which had been hit by a downturn in trading and changes in customers' spending habits.
Starting out as a cabinetmaker in Belfast 110 years ago, it progressed to giftware, cookware and electrical appliances under the ownership of Lisnasure Interiors.
Lisnasure Interiors is due at a court hearing this week, with HMRC expected to be the main creditor.
Hanna & Browne had been holding clearance and closing down sales at several shops of late, which may have featured its stocked branded items from Swarovski, Smeg, Le Creuset, Stieff and Belleek.
The situation for customers waiting for orders to be fulfilled and those with wedding lists at the stores is not yet clear.
