West Midlands recycling firm Lawrence Skip Hire has ceased to trade after entering administration, with the sale of its asset.
KPMG has stepped in to handle matters at the Kidderminster site, with the wind-down assistance of eight staff, while the remaining 24 employees have lost their jobs.
The firm was blighted by two raging fires at its Kidderminster materials recycling facility (MRF) that occurred within six months of each other. The first fire at the facility was in December 2012 and lasted several days. The more recent fire started on 17 June 2013 and raged on for seven weeks, and took the efforts of 80 firefighters to put it out.
The second fire landed costs totalling £250,000. The business’ sister company Lawrence Recycling could not pay the full amount and was assisted by Worcestershire Council and the Environment Agency.
Looking forward, director Andrew Gibson has reassured Lawrence Skip Hire’s commercial customers that collections will be carried out by Lawrence Recycling instead.
A KPMG spokesman said: "During the process of selling this asset and winding down the company the administrators are ensuring that appropriate measures are being taken in the aftermath of the fires and are liaising with the relevant local and national bodies in relation to any environmental risks.”
