Carnival Brewing Company has fallen into administration. The Liverpool-based business appointed administrators Paul Stanley and Jason Dean Greenhalgh from Begbies Traynor on January 29th.
Carnival was established in 2017 and brewed a range of craft beers found in pubs and bars across Merseyside. It employed three people and often collaborated with musicians and record labels to produce limited edition craft beer. Its on-site taproom was open at weekends, serving a variety of its beers.
These included Macau Oat Cream Coffee and Pistachio Pale Ale and Mexican Hot Chocolate Imperial Stout. The company also offered brewery tours and tastings.
According to its most recent accounts filed to Companies House for the year ended 30 September 2023 it had net current liabilities of around £285,000, up from £235,000 the previous year. Creditors amounts falling due within one year came to £346,000, up from £291,000.
Attempts to find a buyer for the business were unsuccessful and it has been placed into administration. The assets of the business, which include a canning line, will be sold via auction.
Stanley, partner at Begbies Traynor, said: "I can confirm that we have been appointed as joint administrators for Carnival Brewing Company. Many small, independent businesses are facing difficulties at the moment and despite establishing a number of trade and individual customers in a competitive industry Carnival has been unable to find a buyer and has been placed into administration. We are working closely with creditors and directors to support on next steps. This includes seeking buyers for the assets of Carnival via an auction which will be held on 26 February."
Brewing companies, as well as pubs, have struggled to recover from the pandemic with many people preferring to drink at home. Rising costs such as labour, supply chain woes, and the cost of living crisis have also impacted the sector.
