London Broncos rugby club is to appoint administrators to give the club some time to put plans in place to secure its future.
The club presently has no home ground and roughly six players left on the records. It has yet to announce its plans for the 2014 season, after making an exit from the Twickenham Stoop at the close of the last season.
London Broncos has been facing an uncertain financial future of late, with rumours circulating that owner David Hughes was about to withdraw his support after not receiving guarantees over the club’s Super League status, following the decision to reinstate promotion and relegation from the end of next season.
The chairman of Barnet Football Club, Tony Kleanthous, recently said he is in discussions with the Bronco club over a move to The Hive, and may be looking to buy a stake in the club, providing it manages to shrug off its debts.
A statement on the proceedings reads: “London Broncos rugby league club have today instructed lawyers to file a notice of intention to appoint administrators over the club.
“This will allow 10 working days for the club to work with the Rugby Football League and other parties to resolve the club’s future and will prevent any creditor from taking action against the club in this period.”
