The Radio Theatre Company Ltd has been liquidated following a period of difficult trading.
Streets SPW Plc's Myles Jacobson was appointed as the liquidator earlier this month, Insolvency News reported. The company cancelled its touring 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show Live!' show halfway through this year's tour.
A statement from the company confirmed that the show has been "subject to the same extreme economic pressures as many productions touring the UK this autumn". It added: "Ticket sales across the board have been lower than average and we have not escaped this trend. A difficult financial environment for such a large and technical show means that covering operating costs has become impossible."
The company is registered to an address in Middlesex and according to the latest accounts, filed on 28 February this year, it had a negative net worth and liabilities of almost £170,000. Liquidators are yet to confirm how the company's remaining assets are being handled.
The Hitchhiker's tour began in the UK in 2012 and brought together some of the original members of the radio and TV cast, teaming them with a series of guest performers, including Anita Dobson and Hugh Dennis.
