Woodall Nicholson has purchased the manufacturing assets and IP of low-access bus manufacturer Bluebird Vehicles out of administration.
Bluebird Vehicles entered administration earlier in July, with 48 job losses. Gareth Harris and Howard Smith at KPMG’s Leeds office are managing the sale.
The Bolton-based coachbuilder Woodall wants to merge the assets with its Mellor bus business, which converts buses and vans at a factory premises in Rochdale.
Woodall Nicholson, which reported revenues of about £26 million last year and has a 200-strong workforce, also operates hearse supplier Colman Milne and emergency services vehicle maker CM Specialist.
The business, which received an investment boost from Mosaic Private Equity, RooGreen Ventures and Enterprise Ventures when the trio purchased the group in July 2013, can trace its roots back to 1820, when it was making horse-drawn carriages and hansom cabs.
“We are very proud to add the Bluebird range of buses to our automotive portfolio”, Woodall Nicholson’s managing director Geoff Hudson said. “The acquisition will generate more jobs in the North West and further strengthen the Mellor range of market leading accessible vehicles.”
