Surrey-based aviation services business ACC Aviation has transitioned to employee ownership. The move also provides an exit for private equity business YFM Equity Partners.
Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Reigate, with operations in Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, and Fort Lauderdale, ACC Aviation provides expertise in aircraft leasing, air charter, and consultancy. In its most recent financial results for the year to December 31, 2023, it posted a turnover of £25.9 million and a profit of £5.6 million. It has around 31 employees.
Under YFM's ownership, the business has expanded its footprint and enhanced its service capabilities, supporting airlines, governments, and corporate entities. It has also expanded its presence in key markets, including the US, Asia, and the Middle East, to meet the increasing global demand for aviation services.
It also diversified its service offerings, enhancing its capabilities in aircraft leasing, charter, and consultancy to better address the evolving needs of its clients. The transaction represents a 5.9x return for YFM investors.
Philip Mathews, chief executive of ACC Aviation, said: "YFM has been an invaluable partner in our journey, providing the support and expertise that have enabled us to grow and strengthen our global presence. This transaction ensures continuity for ACC Aviation, while positioning us for future growth and innovation." The company believes that the move to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) marks a milestone in its evolution and is "designed to secure long-term growth, enhance employee engagement, and build on its strong foundation of success".
Neil Patel, head of national sponsors, ThinCats which helped support the deal, added: "We are delighted to have supported ACC Aviation's transition to an employee ownership structure. The EOT structure secures a future built on the expertise and dedication of the management team and wider employee base and we are confident that ACC Aviation will continue its impressive journey and reach even greater heights in this next chapter."
Sophie Tainton, portfolio director at YFM Equity Partners, added: "ACC Aviation's success is a testament to its outstanding management team and strong market positioning. This debt-funded exit with ThinCats reflects our commitment to delivering excellent returns for our investors while ensuring businesses like ACC Aviation are set up for sustained success."
