Independent convenience store operator Amacor Capital Ltd has acquired the Nisa Local store in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire. Amacor has been a Nisa partner for the past three years and has amassed a portfolio by targeting acquisitions of existing Nisa stores.
The latest acquisition is Amacor’s seventeenth Nisa takeover overall and fifth this year. Following the deal, Amacor is looking to accelerate the growth of its Nisa portfolio and is aiming to reach more than 30 stores over the next 12 months.
Amacor was founded as a joint entity between former Sainsbury’s executive Martin Corban and financial services expert Kevin Amphlett. Discussing the company’s acquisition strategy in 2019, Martin Corban said: “Our strategy for growth is focused on the clear consolidation opportunities that exist in the convenience sector of retail.”
“We acquire and develop selected convenience stores where it has been identified that management have the drive and the determination to take the business forward. Our plan is to expand our existing portfolio through further acquisitions over the coming months and beyond.”
Following the acquisition of the store in Denby Dale, located ten miles south-east of Huddersfield, Amacor says it will retain its Nisa Local branding and shoppers will continue to be able to access its current range. The company plans to develop the store over the coming months, including through the introduction of newspaper sales and the installation of a new coffee machine.
Amacor’s growth efforts are bolstered by its Head of Acquisitions, Alex Wilson, who commented: “We’re delighted to get this sale over the line and make it our 17th store for the group and number five for the year.”
“We’ll be keeping the same in-store team with one of the existing members of staff being promoted to the store manager role, meaning shoppers will not only continue to be able buy the same great products but they’ll also see the same friendly faces.”
