The Corporate Christmas Tree Company has made the transition to employee ownership. The Perth-based firm will now be owned by its 20 employees through an Employee Ownership Trust.
The company was founded by husband and wife team Fiona and Charlie Cameron at their kitchen table in 1998 and now trades under the names Christmas Direct, DZD and Sparkling Lights. It sells Christmas lighting and decorations to the public but its main focus is servicing business customers, including film and television firms, high-end retail stores such as Longchamp and Fortnum and Mason, hospitality venues and town centre lighting projects. This year it will fulfil more than 20,000 orders.
The company has used a combination of organic growth and acquisitions such as the purchase of London-based Christmas display special DZD in 2018.
In a statement the Camerons said: “The Corporate Christmas Tree Company has always been a family business, with a great staff and customers. We explored several sale options, including a trade sale and external investment. We settled on an Employee Ownership Trust as we are able to provide our employees an independent future whilst knowing that the business is being run by the people who know it the best and who have always had its best interests at heart.”
The founders will take a step back from the business on a day-to-day basis, although Charlie Cameron will remain as a director.
Alasdair Seftor, Operations Director, commented “The sale of the business to an EOT is a perfect solution, allowing us to continue to serve our customers, while retaining the same talented members of staff, some of whom have been part of our team for over 10 years.”

The company has traded for 16 years, based in the Northwest and operating nationally providing temporary staff to large corporate clients.
The company is a well-established confined space and draining specialist, experienced in working in the water, wastewater, manufacturing, facilities management and food and drink sector.
