Forth Engineering, one of Cumbria’s leading engineering companies, has acquired Workington-based precision engineering firm HallPack. Founded in 2008, HallPack is a family business and has been a long-term part of Forth’s supply chain.
Following the acquisition, Forth Engineering plans to expand unused space at its headquarters in Maryport to accommodate the HallPack team. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines from Forth’s site in Barrow will be relocated to the Maryport facility to support the planned increase in output.
Forth, which has operational bases in Barrow and Cleator Moor in addition to its Maryport HQ, says that the acquisition and subsequent expansion will triple production capacity and potentially create up to five new roles.
Mark Telford, Forth Engineering Managing Director, stated that the acquisition process had gone “very smoothly”, with the company completing a 100 per cent buyout of all HallPack’s share capital and assets.
He described the HallPack team as “highly skilled” with a “reputation for delivering quality at competitive prices”, praising HallPack director Mike Hall for his leadership of the company and adding that the acquisition brought new capabilities and expertise to Forth Engineering.
According to Telford, integrating HallPack’s skills and value proposition into the Forth business will create a unique offering.
He added: “In harnessing this and collaborating with the wider supply chain on appropriate projects, we now have a capability here in West Cumbria that can serve the UK – and beyond.”
Following the acquisition, Forth Engineering says it plans to invest further in technology, premises and staff as it seeks to deliver its growing order book.
Precision engineering, a highly specialised area of engineering focused on design, manufacture and maintenance of components and systems with tight tolerances and little margin for error, is vital to a wide range of crucial industries, including aerospace, medical devices, telecoms and automotive.
