A community pub in Wales' Afan Valley that is a popular meeting spot for locals has been put up for sale.
Dylan’s in Cwmavon - which prides itself on being the 'gateway to the Afan Valley,' has announced that it is to close its doors at the end of this year, upsetting residents who have come to rely on the commercial premises as a place to hold events.
This Is South Wales reported that Richard Derrick, vice-chairman of Cwmafan Residents Action Committee (Crac), told local residents the sad news at their most recent meeting, which was held at the pub.
“We hold our meetings here and our children’s disco here. Cwmavon has not got a lot of venues of this size so that is one major problem. We will be addressing it in the new year about what we are to do,” Mr Derrick told the newspaper.
The final event to be held at the venue was a Christmas party for local children on 15 December.
Nathan Rasmussen, manager of Dylan’s, told the newspaper that he was extremely upset at having to make the decision to sell the pub.
“It’s just a shame that we have to close but economic conditions dictated. We will be open until the end of the year and hope to go out with a bang with a party on New Year’s Eve,” Mr Rasmussen went on to say.
No asking price has yet been confirmed for the pub.
