Humphreys Holdings Limited, an East Midlands-based designer and manufacturer of custom lanyards, name badges and ID cards, has been acquired by CCL Industries, a global leader in the labelling industry.
Founded in 2012, Humphreys Holdings Limited trades as We Print Lanyards and is based in Long Eaton, Derbyshire. The company manufactures its entire product range in the UK, with all products carrying the Made in Britain accreditation mark.
The deal will see We Print Lanyards join CCL subsidiary Avery as a bolt-on acquisition. Avery is a leading supplier of labels and converted media and software solutions that enable short-run digital printing applications for both consumers and businesses.
We Print Lanyards founder Malcolm Humphreys said: "The acquisition by CCL Industries shows a great testament of the strength of our businesses and brand. The knowledge that under CCL the businesses will thrive and fulfil their potential was my main driver to agreeing the CCL purchase."
CCL Industries President and Chief Executive, Geoffrey T. Martin, said that the deal builds on “Avery's rapidly growing portfolio of access control, badging and credentials technologies, products and brands focused on the retail, hospitality, live events and conferencing markets."
Shorts' Corporate Finance team served as lead advisers to Humphreys Holdings Limited on the transaction, while MD Law provided legal advice to the vendors.
Shorts Corporate Finance partner Andy Ryder said that the deal “represents exciting inward investment into the region”.
MD Law partner James Burdekin, meanwhile, said that the transaction “demonstrates the strategic value SME businesses can add to global brands.”
M&A activity involving international buyers targeting UK firms has been a defining feature of dealmaking over recent years.
