A specialist English Pinot Noir vineyard in Worcestershire has been put up for sale alongside the rest of the Chalk Farm where it resides.
The 8.4 hectare Sixteen Ridges vineyard was planted in 2007 by farmer John Ballard and sits among arable land, vineyards and woodland covering a total of 40.4 hectares, or 99.76 acres.
The vineyard grows and harvests over 30 tonnes of grapes every year, which are used to produce a range of red, rosé and sparkling wines. The wines are produced by Simon Day of contract winery Haygrove Evolution in Ledbury, Herefordshire and is sold under the farm's Sixteen Ridges wine brand to a range of retailers including Waitrose.
The sale of the business is being handled by Tom Pike of Fisher German, who stated that it represented an excellent example of rural entrepreneurship.
"The Ballard family have used the assets of their land to create a valuable crop which provides a very good income alongside more traditional farming," he said.
"Sixteen Ridges is nationally renowned for producing some of the best wines in the UK and much of that is directly attributable to the work at Church Farm."
Ballard added that he hoped the success of the business so far will aid in attracting potential buyers interested in benefiting from the vineyard's reputation.
"We have the right sort of soil, and the fields involved are south and south-east facing and that combination has proved very successful," Mr Ballard added. "We had intended to produce wine and we have what is needed to do that, but the partnership with Haygrove Evolution has proved mutually beneficial and the wines are highly-regarded."
