Five hotels in Hampshire have been bought by Akkeron Hotels, the Surrey-based hospitality group that has made a number of recent strategic purchases of hotels.
The Hampshire hotels include some of the country's most well-known establishments, including the New Forest's Forest Park, Burley Manor and Lyndhurst Park hotels. The deal is said to be worth £60 million and was handled by property consultants, Colliers.
The hotels came as part of Akkeron's takeover of the Forestdale Hotels group, a national chain that was established 40 years ago with the Forest Park Hotel and expanded to have 18 properties across the UK.
Akkeron's chairman, James Brent, said that the purchases were part of their plan to build up a portfolio of 150 hotels across the UK through strategic acquisitions of established businesses.
"We are delighted to be acquiring this group of attractive, well located and popular hotels that will now form an important part of our portfolio," he said. "Robin Collins [of Forestdale] has built a fantastic group of hotels and we are looking forward to building on his efforts to take the business forward."
The news of the deal comes barely a week after Akkeron bought ten hotels from the administrators of Butterfly Hotels and Crowne Hotels. The acquisitions took the group's combined turnover to £57 million and gave them a total staff count of 1,630.
