Flotek Group, an acquisitive managed IT and communications service provider headquartered in Wales, has completed its latest M&A deal with the acquisition of IT services firm Microshade Business Consultants Limited.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Colne, Microshade provides secure IT services to more than 285 parish councils across the UK. The company holds ISO 27001:2022 certification, reflecting its robust information security management, and is a Microsoft Cloud Partner .
The firm operates its Cloud Remote Desktop Service from Plymouth’s Southwest Data Centre, in close proximity to one of Flotek Group’s regional offices. The deal is described as enabling Flotek to provide local IT support and cybersecurity services to parish councils across the UK.
Flotek Group CEO Jay Ball said that the group had worked with Microshade on various projects for over three years. According to Ball, the vision of Microshade founder Stuart Wilbur, who sadly passed away during the acquisition process, “was to bring advanced technology to the parish council sector, a vision we wholeheartedly share and are committed to continuing.”
Ball added that Flotek sees strong growth potential in hosting the existing server-based applications of customers in the group’s private data centre technology, which he said "complements our existing Microsoft Azure technology offering, as both solutions have their unique advantages in the market."
Post-acquisition, the Microshade team will become the new Cloud Infrastructure team within Flotek Group and continue to deliver specialist cloud technology using existing data centre relationships and security positions. Over the coming year, the company will be fully integrated into Flotek Group.
David Astwood, who will take the position of head of infrastructure, commented: "We've worked with the Flotek team for a number of years on joint projects and have enjoyed collaborating on a private cloud offering. We look forward to focusing on growth across the parish councils."
Post-deal integration is arguably the most important stage of the M&A process
This is a unique opportunity to acquire a pioneering distributed compute technology business, known for its groundbreaking proprietary technology with proven applications in MMO, Metaverse, and real-world projects.
The company functions as an integrated extension of its clients’ IT teams, offering a range of services that covers IT strategy, network management, cloud technology, mobile devices, data migrations, IT procurement and ongoing technical support.
The company is a well-regarded IT solutions provider specialising in Oracle implementation, functional support, development, and system administration.
