Herefordshire-based infrastructure services provider M Group Services has announced the acquisition of Scottish business IDSystems (IDS). The acquisition of the 100-strong Cumbernauld business represents M Group’s eleventh acquisition since late 2016.
IDS is a mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, automation and telemetry (MEICAT) specialist. The company provides services including repair and maintenance, design, commissioning and project management to clients in the water and wastewater sector and adjacent markets.
Its clients are made up of water companies, as well as industrial and commercial organisations, including Scottish Water and its supply chain. Through its partnering approach and best-value engineering services, the company has developed long-term relationships with clients.
Following the acquisition, IDS will retain its brand identity and form part of M Group’s Utilities Division, before making the transition to the group’s new, dedicated Water Division in April next year.
M Group Services has operated acquisitively since November 2016, when Morrison Utility Services, of which M Group is the parent company, was acquired by private equity investment outfit First Reserve.
Under First Reserve, its acquisitions included civils contractor Dyer & Butler, meter reading firm Meter-U and telecoms infrastructure specialist Magdalene. In 2018, M Group was sold to PAI Partners and has continued to make strategic acquisitions.
Discussing the deal and the group’s acquisition model, M Group Services Chief Executive Jim Arnold commented: “Strategic acquisitions are a core part of our strategy as we continue to enhance the scope of capability across our sector focused divisions.”
“IDS has earned a strong reputation within the water sector through its longstanding relationships with their key clients such as Scottish Water along with its innovative product development and off-site manufacturing capability.”
Mr Arnold added: “This acquisition broadens the complementary, specialist services delivered by the Group in this sector and we look forward to supporting the IDS management team as they look to consolidate the Company’s leading market reputation and embark on the next stage of their strategic growth plans.”
IDS Managing Director Iain Doherty said: “We are absolutely delighted to be aligning ourselves with M Group Services. Their understanding of our vision has been supported through the whole process and my fellow directors and I truly believe, with their sector knowledge, wide geographic footprint and professionalism our controlled sustainable, growth plan will be greatly enhanced”.
