A nationwide insurance group has expanded its presence in the South of England with the acquisition of a commercial insurance broker based in Surrey. The Clear Group’s acquisition of C.R. Toogood & Co Limited boosts its UK retail operations and supports its growth aims in the region.
Based in East Horley, C.R. Toogood is a third-generation family business, currently led by Peter Toogood. The 19-strong company offers a suite of services, including commercial insurance, life insurance, mortgage broking and employee benefits and last year achieved gross written premiums of £14.5 million.
Clear Group said that the acquisition supports its goal of building scale and service capabilities in the region by adding locally embedded businesses with established client relationships.
The deal adds to the group’s growing presence in the South, with existing offices in Horsham and London. The South of England is a key focus area for the group, as a result of its large number of small and medium-sized businesses and established broker markets.
The acquisition will also see Clear Group acquire the trade and assets of two affiliated firms, Crisp Specialist Risk and Lanning Toogood Limited, with Marcus Crisp and John Lanning joining the group post-completion.
