Cura Terrae, a private equity-backed group of environmental consultancy and services providers, has struck its largest acquisition to date with a deal for Scotland-based consultancy EnviroCentre.
EnviroCentre was founded in 1995 and employs a team of 75 staff across four offices in Scotland. The company has provided environmental consultancy services in support of some of Scotland’s most significant infrastructure projects over the past 30 years.
Post-acquisition, EnviroCentre will join Cura Terrae's Land and Nature division, bringing in expertise in geo-environmental services and water management and engineering. The company also has enhanced capabilities in ecology and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
The acquisition of EnviroCentre’s four Scottish offices, in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeenshire, also means that the expanded Cura Terrae group will be able to offer comprehensive environmental services throughout the UK.
As well as significantly bolstering its presence in Scotland, the deal brings the total number of professionals in Cura Terrae’s Land and Nature business to more than 175 across the UK, while taking headcount across the wider group to approximately 400.
Sheffield-based Cura Terrae, which is backed by private equity firm Palatine, was founded in 2022. Since then, the group has completed five acquisitions, with the addition of EnviroCentre representing its largest transaction so far.
According to Cura Terrae CEO Nick Dilworth, the two firms share both technical goals and a common purpose. He continued: "This acquisition brings complementary expertise and geographic reach to the group, while adding a team of people whose values closely align with our own.”
Dilworth added that the deal would enable the group’s clients to benefit “from a greater depth and breadth of services."
EnviroCentre Managing Director Duar Fleming said that the company had been seeking “a partner who understood our culture, respected our people, and shared our long-term goal to enhance the environment” in order to increase its impact.
Greg Holmes, investment director in the Palatine Impact Fund, added: "This is an important strategic acquisition for Cura Terrae, broadening its service capabilities and its geographic reach.”
"We continue to work with Nick and the team to identify other suitable targets that will further enhance Cura Terrae's growth and mission to take care of the earth."
