Following the rejection of a £16 million bid to purchase the empty Peterborough District Hospital, the commercial development site has now been placed onto the open market.
According to The Evening Telegraph, a bid – thought to be from developer Bellway Homes – was turned down by the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's board.
As a result, another, higher bidder is now being sought for the 10-hectare site located off Thorpe Road in Peterborough.
The prime site has been earmarked to be turned into a mixed-use housing and commercial development.
Nigel Hards, the hospital trust chairman, told Peterborough Today, “We have now informed agents Jones Lang LaSalle to quickly put the site on the open market and we believe the developer who made the offer is still interested.
Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson added, “I believe there is potential and capacity for really good quality developers to come in and create a national exemplar development, as well as generating the cash needed for local health services.”
