Nottingham-based independent testing, inspections, certification and compliance business Phenna Group has snapped up an environmental consultancy in its second acquisition of the year.
Twickenham-based STM Environmental was founded in 2004 and provides environmental consulting services to public and private sector clients. Its offering is predominantly focused on the supply of geo-environmental and flood risk and drainage services, complemented with the development and supply of environmental data management systems to local authorities.
In 2019, Paul Barry led the management buy-out of Hansen Aerospace and First Scottish Group from a US Family Office, via strong management equity support from members of the 'Hansen' family and a committed debt facility from CVC Capital Partners. Phenna Group was officially formed. 'Phenna' being an acronym of Paul, his wife and his children's first name initials.
Simon Makoni, director of STM Environmental Consultants, said: "We're thrilled that the Phenna Group has recognised our hard work, success and potential. Selecting the right partner to aid our ambitious growth plans was a big decision for myself and the STM Environmental team, but from our first engagement with Phenna, we felt confident that we'd found the right partner."
Phil Marshall, chief executive of Phenna Group, added: "STM Environmental is a market leader in the environmental consulting space and this acquisition boosts our current service offering within the Infrastructure division."
Phenna Group was advised by RSM UK and Browne Jacobson. STM Environmental was advised by Oaklins and Hemingways.
The Browne Jacobson team was led by partner Matt Bolton, supported by associates Jack Milnthorpe and Abigail Noakes (corporate), senior associate Christian Burchardt (tax) and partner Cat Driscoll (commercial).
"We're proud to have supported Phenna Group on the strategic acquisition of STM Environmental," said Bolton. "The addition of STM Environmental will further enhance Phenna Group's offering within its Infrastructure division."
In January, Phenna merged the statutory inspection division of Bureau Technical Services with its Industrial Safety Inspections Limited business based in Tamworth. Phenna said at the time that it augmented its Built Environment and Industrials Divisions in the UK.
