PNZ Group (Powering Net Zero), a group of net zero solutions businesses, has acquired carbon and sustainability consultancy Arete Zero Carbon. The deal is PNZ Group’s third strategic acquisition and significantly bolsters the group’s ability to serve as a comprehensive, end-to-end partner for organisations targeting net zero.
Arete Zero Carbon, founded through investment from private equity firm Arete Capital Partners, helps UK businesses to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions, both within their direct operations and across their wider value chains.
Led by Managing Director and leading carbon expert Dr Stephen Finnegan, Arete Zero Carbon helps clients to futureproof their organisations, improve supply chain resilience, meet growing regulatory and customer requirements and enhance their long-term environmental and commercial value.
The company has worked with clients from a wide range of sectors, including leading tech companies like HP, Exertis and TD Synnex, built environment leaders such as Knauf and Seddon, major retail and hospitality brands such as KFC, legal firms, government organisations and not-for-profits.
Post-acquisition, the company will trade as PNZ Advisory, joining PNZ Carbon and PNZ Energy under the PNZ Group umbrella.
PNZ Group CEO Martin Smith said that the acquisition “fills a critical gap in our proposition”, with businesses now requiring “expert, strategic guidance to build and deliver credible decarbonisation plans.”
He continued: “We now offer clients a complete solution that spans advice, action, and accountability. This is a major milestone in our mission to be the UK’s go-to net zero partner.”
Dr Stephen Finnegan said that the deal was “a natural evolution” for the business and that working alongside PNZ Carbon and PNZ Energy would mean that the company “can now offer clients a fully integrated solution, from strategy and advisory through to implementation and verified offsets – enabling us to deliver real, measurable climate impact at every stage.”
Warrington-headquartered PNZ Group combines strategic advisory, clean energy infrastructure and access to verified carbon credits in order to support clients throughout their journey to net zero.
The group now comprises more than 50 professionals working across its advisory, energy, and carbon divisions. Over the next 12 months, the group plans to further scale its teams in order to meet growing demand for integrated decarbonisation solutions.
