Tue, 10 May 2011 | BUSINESS SALE
Bruce Millers, one of the best-known independent music shops in Scotland, has been put up for sale.
Located at the west end of Union Street in Aberdeen, the music shop first opened in 1900, and has been run by the same family ever since. It began by selling sheet music, pianos and organs, and graduated onto selling records, becoming the largest record shop in Scotland's north-east in the 1960s and 1970s.
Bruce Millers remains the biggest supplier of musical instruments in the area and also sells a wide range of television and audio equipment.
In a bid to save the company from administration, the family has decided to put it on the market as a going concern.
A company spokesman said, “We have been making losses for several years now. There is no single reason for this but a number of factors have affected our profitability.
“The Miller family have supported the business unstintingly, and in so doing have provided continued employment for the staff in difficult times. They can no longer do so and have decided that the best way to protect jobs is to put the business up for sale,” added the spokesman.
A price for the music shop has not yet been revealed.
