Tillicoultry Quarries, an aggregate and construction material supplier headquartered in Alloa, has expanded with the acquisition of a sand and gravel business based in East Anglia via a share purchase agreement.
Middleton Aggregates, which was founded in 1986 by John Lemon and sons Peter and David Lemon, operates four sites across East Anglia, supplying sand and gravel, clay and recycling services to the construction market in the region.
The acquisition of Middleton Aggregates will see all 46 of the company’s employees join the team at Tillicoultry Quarries, bringing its overall staff headcount to more than 400 across the wider group.
The acquisition is described as an important milestone in Tillicoultry Quarries’ investment in its long-term growth and reserves, with Middleton Aggregates' East Anglia sites both enhancing its geographic footprint and expanding its product capabilities.
Following the acquisition, Tillicoultry Quarries Managing Director Wallace Menzies commented: "Middleton Aggregates is a business I have long admired, and I’ve known Peter and the team for many years. I’m pleased that they’ve trusted us to carry the business forward. Their reputation in the region is outstanding, and the acquisition provides a great opportunity to combine our strengths. We look forward to working with the existing team to maximise the potential of both businesses and continue delivering the quality and service customers expect.”
Peter Lemon, Managing Director of Middleton Aggregates, added, “This marks an exciting new chapter for Middleton Aggregates. We are proud of the business we have built, and I am confident that in joining forces with Tillicoultry Quarries, who share our values and vision, we are securing a strong future for our employees, customers, and suppliers. It will very much be business as usual, with enhanced opportunities ahead.”
