A boutique hotel in a Shropshire market town is up for sale with a guide price of £1.75 million. Darwin's Townhouse, a five-star hotel set in an 18th-century grade II*-listed Georgian townhouse in Shrewsbury, has been put up for sale as its owners prepare for retirement.
The hotel features 19 en-suite bedrooms, which are split between a main house and a garden lodge, as well as a lounge, snug and bar, conservatory and a breakfast area which has potential future use as a restaurant.
The hotel, which is the only 5-star AA-rated establishment in Shrewsbury, was acquired by the current family owners in 2016. The owners, who previously operated a number of well-known establishments in the area and have more than 40 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, have engaged the Hotels team at Colliers to market the property for sale.
Josh Sullivan from Colliers' Hotels Agency team who is handling the sale, said: "This is a high-performing, hands-off investment in a growing leisure market.”
"With a prime location, five-star credentials, and year-on-year growth, Darwin's Townhouse presents an amazing opportunity for investors looking to acquire a profitable, well-managed hospitality asset with further upside potential."
One of the hotel’s current owners, Ann DiTella, said: "After many successful years of operation, our charming and well-established boutique hotel is now available for sale to continue its legacy of hospitality as we prepare for retirement.”
DiTella added that the sale provided the opportunity for a buyer “to acquire a highly profitable, turnkey business with loyal clientele, strong reputation and to take the business to its next level."
