The headquarters of the former Cheshire Building Society has been placed on the market by the parent company Nationwide Building Society.
Colliers International has been appointed to sell the 42,000 sq. ft. freehold property on Castle Street in Macclesfield, Cheshire. There is also the possibility for it to be sold on a leasehold basis. It has a current rateable value of £317,500, though the agents have not given a guide price for the property.
The property has a period façade, with directors’ suite and boardrooms inside. It has planning permission for use as offices, and could also be developed for other uses including retail and a hotel says Rupert Barron, the director of offices at Colliers International.
“We’re very confident that this impressive building will be of great interest to businesses seeking a purpose-built head office or a centrally-located building property of prominence that can be adapted to meet their particular requirements,” Mr Barron said.
Established in Macclesfield in 1870, Cheshire Building Society was bought by Nationwide Building Society in December 2008. The move was engineered by the FSA after Cheshire had difficulties with a commercial mortgage loan.
The Cheshire Building Society opposite the former headquarters is being kept and will continue to run.
