An unusual collection of properties, including a 14th century castle, is up for sale for around £1.75 million.
Blenkinsopp Home Park Estate in Northumberland is on the market and, in addition to the castle, includes a pub and a hamlet of 70 homes.
The property has been in the hands of the Simpson family since the 1950s but the current owner, Mike Simpson, is hoping that a new owner will breathe some fresh life into the 22-acre estate. This could be achieved through the development of the existing properties, although buyers might also want to take advantage of the planning permission to build a holiday park on the site.
Mr Simpson spoke to This is Money about the sale: "It will be unbelievably hard to leave. I have fantastic memories and it’s a beautiful place to live. I can sit here in my living room in front of the fire and look out onto the rhododendrons that previous owner Violet Lorraine planted in 1936. It's an amazing sight.
"There are 70 residential families that live on the estate and we're all linked in like a family so I will miss them the most."
The sale is taking place in lots. The first includes the hamlet and a license for 74 residential caravans and planning permission for 11 holiday homes and is on the market for £1.3 million. The second consists of the ruins of Blenkinsopp Castle and a three-bedroom Grade II listed house and is for sale for £450,000.
