Three of the most famous piers in England and Wales have been put up for sale.
The South and Central Piers in Blackpool and the Grade II listed Llandudno Pier in Wales have been put on the market by owner Cuerden Leisure for a collective price of £12.6 million. Individually, Blackpool South is up for £3.3 million, Blackpool Central for £4.8 million and Llandudno for £4.5 million.
Bilfinger GVA are selling the piers on behalf of Cuerden Leisure. Director Richard Baldwin said: “In our opinion, the value is in the existing use and this is unlikely to change at either of the Blackpool piers.”
All three piers hail from the 19th century. Blackpool Central Pier houses a 33-metre high Ferris wheel and is 341 metres in length, while Blackpool South Pier is 150 metres long.
Llandudno has listed building status so the future owner would need to gain Listed Building Consent if they wished to make any changes. It is known as the Queen of Welsh Piers and is 695 metres long.
A spokesman for the National Piers Society added: "These piers are all in good order and trading successfully, and, given that Easter is almost upon us, I have no doubt that they will quickly find a buyer or buyers."
