South Wales-based SJ Environmental Limited has undergone a management buyout (MBO). The company is the franchisee operator of plumbing and drainage specialist Dyno-Rod across the South Wales area.
The firm was founded in 2005 by Andrea and Stephen Burt, who will now exit the business, alongside shareholder and Development Director Lee Ramsey. The MBO sees husband and wife Matthew and Kirsty James take over ownership of the business.
Matthew James has worked at SJ Environmental for over 12 years and has been involved in management operations for the past six years. Kirsty James will join the management team and take responsibility for overseeing internal operations.
An MBO was chosen as the preferred succession option in order to provide continuity in client relationships, familiarity with the company’s processes and to enable a fresh approach to help the business achieve further growth over the coming years.
The deal was supported by the Development Bank of Wales. Lead Advisors Cadre Advisory provided advice to the management, with legal support provided by Carbon Law. GS Verde Group advised the outgoing ownership team.
New Managing Director Matthew James commented: “We are delighted to have completed this transaction and I am very excited to continue to grow SJE under the Dyno-Rod franchise. We have an exceptional team that delivers a fantastic service."
Co-Founder and outgoing Director of Operations Andrea Burt said: “We are beyond proud that the succession of the business has come from within, and delighted to have concluded a transaction that will see Matt and Kirsty take the business forward.”
Simon Hanna, Franchise Standards Manager at Dyno-Rod, added: “Dyno-Rod is committed to succession planning for all our franchisees and we are delighted that Matt and Kirsty have completed this transaction. We will continue to support them to ensure a seamless transition.”
