Wed, 24 Aug 2011 | MERGER
Two Norwich printing firms are preparing to merge in order to strengthen their combined position in the industry. Norwich Colour Print and Crowes will operate from one site in Drayton, which is owned by Norwich Colour Print.
Established over two hundred years ago, Crowes once printed handbills of hangings at Norwich Prison. The firm has moved with the times, and since a management buy-out deal in 2000 has invested in modern state-of-the-art digital print technology. It is presently still located at Norwich International Airport Industrial Estate.
Norwich Colour Print was founded in 1985 and is family-run. Together the firms have 72 staff, and some of these jobs may be lost, although this will be kept to a minimum, Simon Tilbrook, Crowes’ managing director, said.
“Within our industry and the shrinking market for print, it’s exactly the right thing to do. If we want to survive, we have to get bigger.”
“The merger would unify our core strengths which would undoubtedly prove advantageous to our customers and staff,” Mr Tilbrook added.
It is anticipated that the merger will be finalised on 19 September, and a new business name may be used.
